YUCK YUM, LATENT SELVES
Visual Arts Masters Dissertation
Yuck Yum, Latent Selves is part of an ongoing inquiry into how the manipulation of materiality and form in sculptural practice, has the ability to transmit tacit knowledge (felt knowledge that is difficult to articulate) of interoceptive and psychological experiences or states. The three inflatable sculptures, Selve, Leib and Kin, act as psychological interfaces, translating internal, non-material states into affective forms. This project has been led by the artist’s fascination with what lies just behind or beneath our conscious mind. She does not seek to judge or alter but to explore and expose. These sculptural works provide physical, material manifestations of the invisible parts of being, things we feel but can’t always name.
