Unsolicited
Unsolicited is a video of scrolling, animated text depicting misogynistic political quotes. The text builds, repeats, and fragments into a pulsating, unreadable kaleidoscope.
Sourced from real-world statements made about women in power, often from men in power, the words reflect how gendered language wears down those who must endure it. When projected on walls within a bathroom, the work nods to private pressure and hidden fury. Unsolicited speaks to the cost of staying composed while being undermined.
Paired with video work Delicious, it considers whose voice gets to disintegrate and whose doesn’t.
Unsolicited, 2025, Single-channel digital video, scrolling text animation with sound. Approx. 20-minute loop, projected dimensions variable. Vacant Assembly, West End, QLD
DELICIOUS
Projected into a shower stall and filtered through red light, this video reworks nature documentary footage of praying mantises in coitus. Mid-act, the female eats the male’s head. His body continues. She cleans herself. A low drone sound deepens the tension. The skewed projection and bathroom setting add discomfort and intimacy. This work explores female rage and the collision of seduction with violence. Delicious plays alongside Unsolicited, both works tracing the internal effects of misogyny and restraint.
Delicious, 2025, Single-channel video (found footage), red gel filter, sound Approx. 5-minute loop
